WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP -- In a powerful show of unity and support for the neurodivergent community, students at Chestnut Ridge Middle School gathered last week dressed in blue to mark their commitment to Autism Awareness.

Throughout the month of April, which is internationally recognized as World Autism Awareness Month, schools and communities worldwide have been coming together to foster greater understanding and celebrate the diverse ways in which people experience the world. By wearing blue, the students and staff at Chestnut Ridge Middle School joined this global movement, aiming to promote inclusion and challenge stereotypes within their school hallways.

"Seeing our student body come together in such a visible and supportive way is truly inspiring," CRMS Principal Theresa Pietrowski said. "Our goal is to ensure that every student feels valued, understood, and included. Today’s event is just one step in our ongoing commitment to this mission."

The initiative serves as a reminder that education and empathy are essential in building a more inclusive future. Students were encouraged throughout the day to engage in conversations about the importance of embracing individual differences and supporting their peers.

Chestnut Ridge Middle School remains dedicated to fostering an environment where every student is empowered to thrive, celebrating the unique perspectives that each member of the school community brings.
